Music meme, part two

Day 02. Your least favourite song

The range is even bigger than yesterday. A dozen songs could qualify for best song ever. Thousands can for worst song. So I have to pick a really bad one. An artist I have disliked for decades is Bryan Adams. No guts, no emotions, nothing to listen to, just playing what the audience expects him to play.

In Werchter, I believe 1988, a friend and myself had a lot of fun taking the piss during his show. We were merely trying to get closer to the stage to see the last act that evening: Sting (in his better days). During the show Adams played mainly hits, just trying to please his audience. Not automatically a bad sign, but if you do it his way, it annoys me a lot. Inbetween the songs we kept asking people around us which band was playing. People were annoyed and stunned that we didn't recognize Bryan Adams. They were even offended when we pretended not to know him. Luckily the Sting concert afterwards made up for having to listen to Bryan Adams for over an hour.

Bryan Adams - Summer of 69

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played 'til my fingers bled
It was summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a Band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh when I lock back now
That was seemes to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive in
And that's when I met you

Standin on a mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was no or never
Those were the best days of my life

(Chorus) Back in Summer of '69

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, no

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Somethimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong

Standin' on a mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

(Chorus) Back in summer of '69
