Day 29 - A song from your childhood

At what age does your childhood end? Or when does it even start, is being a toddler part of your childhood?

A song is a bit of a vague description. The song that defines your childhood or the song you loved as a child would have been much easier, more accurate as well. Now I have to choose. The first band I really followed (Oerend Hard by Normaal) or the first record I bought (Another brick in the wall by Pink Floyd) or the song we used for a great performance in primary school (Baby sitting boogie by Buzz Clifford).

The title song from the first album I bought myself (Dream Police by Cheap Trick) or my favorite band from my teenage years (October by U2). They all missed out, as I decided to pick a song from when I was a small child. Though I still remember it very well. I was four, a video clip was still something new and then suddenly there was this song. The singing frog immediately stole my heart. As long as the song was in the charts, I had to see the clip on television. Tv wasn't as omni-present then as it is these days. No remote, four channels and most of the time nothing on at all.

The weekly program with the charts was a fixed time every week. Most of the time there were artists miming their hitsingle, accompanied by young ladies doing some weird dance. After the singing frog, Queen came with a great video a year afterwards. But the four year old little boy I was, had to see the singing frog. At one moment I was put in the shower, heard the beginning of the sing and ran down the stairs butt naked so not to miss the song entirely. I couldn't care less that I was still dripping wet and that we had visitors, I was staring at the screen to see my favorite clip.

Roger Glover got the credits, though we all know (now) that it was Ronnie James Dio who sang the song. "Love is all" is an all time classic and fully deserves an honorable mention in this music meme.

Roger Glover - Love is all

Everybody's got to live together
All the people got to understand
So, love your neighbour
Like you love your brother
Come on and join the band

Well, all you need is love and understanding
Ring the bell and let the people know
We're so happy and we're celebrating
Come on and let your feelings show

Love is all, well love is all
Love is all, can't you hear the call
Oh, love is all you need
Love is all you need at the Butterfly Ball

Ain't you happy that we're all together
At the ball in nature's countryside
And although we're wearing different faces
Nobody wants to hide

Love is all and love is all and
It's easy, yes it's so easy
At the Butterfly Ball where love is all
And It's so easy

All you need is love and understanding
Ring the bell and let the people know
We're so happy and we're celebrating
Let your feelings show

Love is all, yes love is all at the Butterfly Ball
Love is big, love is small
Love is free, love is all
At the Butterfly Ball

When your back's to the wall
When you're starting to fall
You got something to lean on
Love is everything

It can make you sing at the Butterfly Ball
Love is all, I say love is all, yes love is all
At the Butterfly Ball
